With a profound understanding of the importance of people in driving organisational success, he saw first-hand how leaders were flying blind on culture — relying on lagging data while their best people quietly disengaged. That frustration became the foundation for Acorn.

He recognised that the most crucial — and most neglected — aspect of sustainable business growth is culture. Dion co-founded Acorn to give every leader the real-time culture intelligence they need to lead proactively, not reactively.

The Origin Story

How a shared frustration with reactive culture tools became Acorn.

Joshua and Dion had both built and led organisations of their own. Between them they had seen great cultures quietly erode — not because leaders didn't care, but because the tools available to them were all backward-looking. Surveys delivered results months after the fact. Exit interviews captured data from people already walking out the door.

"The data always came too late," recalls Joshua. "By the time we knew there was a problem, we'd already lost people we shouldn't have lost. We needed something that told us what was happening right now — not six months ago."

Dion saw the same pattern playing out in businesses he was scaling: "Revenue growth was masking cultural decay. Leaders had extraordinary financial dashboards but absolutely no real-time view of how their people were actually feeling. We realised that was the gap — and that AI had finally reached the point where we could close it."

The insight that became Acorn was simple but powerful: instead of asking employees to fill in surveys, embed an AI coach into their daily workflow.
